I wish I'd come across it months ago.
I've always thought I was a digger. I take decent divots with fuller pitches, and chip keeping hands forward, open stance etc.
My chipping recently has been one of the best parts of my game.

But... I've just come back from trying the one handed test (with a 56-11). With my left at least half were horrible, but with my right they were all (except 1) very reasonable.

Could this be down to the fact that I'm not very strong and felt like I couldn't control the club properly with left hand only, or should I change chipping styles to be a slider?

Part of the reason for asking is that I'm about to change wedges (I miss my Vokeys) and would like to get the bounce etc right first time.

If you're still around on this topic, thanks for any reply you have time to make.

Your video mentions taking a 10 finger grip for sliders. What is your thought on taking a reverse overlap grip (where the index finger of the left hand overlaps the right but the thumb of the left hand is resting on top of the fingers of the right hand. Then only three fingers of the left hand are on the club. This would pretty much eliminate any left hand movement.
Thanks.

Re: How To Find A Miracle In Your Short Game: The Five Minute Wonder Wedge

Jevans...thank you for sharing your story! I really appreciate it. This approach revolutionized the way I think about short game. That one player with the fused wrist made all the difference in the world when assessing short game style.

Re: How To Find A Miracle In Your Short Game: The Five Minute Wonder Wedge

I have been working diligently on my short game for a # of years with varying degrees of success. When I practice I usually hit the first 30 shots perfect, then I start either chunking or worse shanking. It then takes a lot of effort for me to hit shots well.
I usually set up with a forward press off my back foot with an open stance. And I always thought I was a digger since I hit chunky shots. I started hitting better when I realized that I was flipping at the ball. Holding the lag helped but still would hit fat shots.
I tried your "test". I was floored to find that I hit very consistently with my right arm. When I tried with my left arm, I hit that well but then started to shank the ball. I never shanked with my right arm. It's ironic also that I am somewhat ambidextrous and throw with my left hand but do most everything else with my right.

So now I practiced with the slider set up and was amazed at the results. Not 1 shank for an hour. In fact, I was amazed at how straight the shots were.

I am now very anxious to try this setup off of tight lies (where I usually chunk). I only have a 10* bounce but will see what that does before I buy new wedges. I am very confident however.

Re: Protected: Titleist 2012 Update

We had the s300s in the new 712s and yes, it appeared the AP2 launches higher. Thinking the KBS C-Taper may be a good option for me. Since we are basically KBS exclusive, having a new low launching shaft covers everyone!

Re: Protected: Titleist 2012 Update

Like the AP2 . We can increase spin, decrease spin, driving shot, floating shot...it's very user specific. I have some theories on this type of fitting as well as iron fitting and may have an article by the end of the year.

Re: How To Find The Best Driver Of Your Life In Five Minutes Or Less

Ryan
Interesting thoughts on fitting, does this apply to fitting fairway woods and hybrids?

Re: How To Find The Putter Of Your Dreams In Five Minutes Or Less

Why do you "have" to buy a new putter? You might like the Newport 2.6. That's a straight shaft with perhaps more toe hang.

Re: How To Find The Putter Of Your Dreams In Five Minutes Or Less

Well said. Just as an interesting fact that I forgot: I noticed that I tend to close my stance - the left leg is a few cm in front of the right.
Now I have to look for a new putter - minimal or none offset and a bit more toe hang than the Red X5 that I currently have. As you said, this reinforces confidence (not the toe hang :D). Do you have any suggestion maybe?

Re: How To Find The Putter Of Your Dreams In Five Minutes Or Less

Indeed we have a very small percentage of right handed players , left
eye dominant, that prefer little offset. We don't have enough data to
make a conclusion yet, but when we perform our TPI Eye Aim test during
the fittings, they tend to be really good at aiming their eyes. It's
more important to understand where the players' eyes aim, rather than
the putter face. The offset, putter shape and design, and lines on the
golf ball can reinforce confidence, or add confidence once players
understand their aim tendency.

Conversely, when eye aim is off,
players may loose confidence and prefer a blank slate when putting: no
lines, no lines on the ball, etc., and is one of the reasons why they
the putter or the line on the ball "never looks right."

The
bottom line in our opinion, is that you don't need perfect alignment or
path. You just have to roll it nicely with confidence.

Re: How To Find The Putter Of Your Dreams In Five Minutes Or Less

Sorry, but I have to disagree. I had problems with putting for multiple years and I didnt know why. I always played with a plumbers neck and full shaft offset and I always had problems with alingment. When I went to a golf shop I tried several diffrent offsets and I found that I like putters with less to no offset. Then I googled and checked my eye dominance. I'm left eye dominant and right handed player and then it made "click". And it's very logical: I always found that my full offset putter is a bit open so i started closing it and my putts went left. Thats because you see a putter with your left eye on an angle. So the putter head must go forward (less offset), under your left eye, because you are using the putter head for alingment, not the ball! And the people on GolfWRX can confirm that! Hope it helps

Re: Contact | Location

have a 909 d2 driver, with a diamania 65 r flex shaft. Find that i am hitting it shorter than normal, and with a low launch hight
would it better to change the shaft to give a high launch rate.

That would have been great but I'm living in France and I have not plan to come to USA soon, so I think I'm gonna buy a Scotty Cameron to the local seller and fit it here.

A putter like the Newport 2.6 as no hosel so is it possible to fit lie and loft ?
